400Hz GPU Power.
What is 400Hz GPU Power?
Large aircraft operate on an AC electrical system at 400Hz frequency. Aircraft are fitted with an auxiliary power unit (APU) to provide this power when they are on the ground. In today’s ever more environmentally aware world, many airports require that the APU be switched off whilst the aircraft is docked at the aerobridge. So that the aircraft systems can still operate whilst the APU is off, power is provided by a ground power unit (GPU). The 400Hz supply is generated from a solid state converter mounted onto the aerobridge.
- RATE can offer bridge mounted or remote mounted units.
- RATE has a load bank for testing units.
- RATE can supply 400Hz cable and plugs.
- RATE can supply and install cable reelers and hoists.
- Rate can supply and install underground cable reticulation and apron pits.
What benefits does a 400Hz GPU Power unit provide?
An airport can reduce it’s environmental footprint by requiring aircraft to switch off the APU.
Direct cost recovery by the airport operator or airline as the GPU can be billed on a power consumed or time used basis.
If an aircraft arrives with failed APU the GPU is ready at the PBB so that it can be connected, by the ground staff. Modern aircraft need to have a 400Hz power supply available to shut down their engines.
Line maintenance on aircraft can be done with the APU switched off and the GPU connected. This conserves the APU and reduces airport environmental pollution.
Rate (Australia) Pty Ltd realises that an in Apron delivery system is not always the most practical solution especially when the apron already exists. This why we offer a number of different solutions to your cable and hose handling problems.
RATE (Australia) Pty Ltd can provide a range of 400Hz cable reelers and Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA) hose retrievers.
In the past we have provided 400Hz cable reelers to Perth Airport (Western Australia) and cable hoists to Melbourne Airport.
